Barbara Walker - Burden of Proof - portrait wall - Turner Prize finalist 2023 - Towner Gallery

When the exhibition is over, in April next year, these outstanding portraits will be cleaned off this wall. Which one reason I would like to share them now and in the future.

Wonderful portraits, well liked by the general public. Powerful reminders of this country’s abject treatment of the Windrush generation.
A great tour around the excellent Towner Gallery. And the cafe is pretty good, as I remember.

Although the motivation and message were strong and the work was beautifully executed, it was too conventional to win, in my view. It was great that it got the chance to be seen and appreciated as one of the finalists.
