Site of Old Saint Mary's Church and Graveyard

The church was built in the 12th century and abandoned in the 19th when the new church was built. It was destroyed in the 1960s as it was no longer safe. The ruins and old graves stones are open to the public. The site was deconsecrated in 1993.
It is on the route of the proposed London-Birmingham high speed train (HS2) which will require the exhumation of a large amount of human remains. These will be moved to a new site, the location and nature of which has yet to be decided.
