Red-spotted Purple (Limenitis arthemis)(m) A first for here

Well.... after next to no butterflies... a "first" and Lifer for here and me today bringing my butterfly species total here to 51.

This is a Red-spotted Purple (Limenitis arthemis) male.

Not a pretty background but you take what you can get ... he was taking minerals off the stones !

A really beautiful butterfly. I don't think I've ever seen one. You are forgiven for the concrete background. ;-)

Pam J replied to Ronald Losure:

Thankyou Ronald !

They are usually more blue apparently and it really threw me a curved ball as all I could think initially was Spicebush gone different !!

I think the background really sets the colour of this lovely Butterfly, it seems to be very shimmery with what shows a metallic green in a way !!!...... could make a nice copy for a brooch....
Lucky find for you !!
