I suspect the plant is a frangipanni, which would have picked up its leaves and flowers shortly after you took this great composition.

It is indeed a frangipani, George. I'll check sometime whether it has flowered yet. They are curious plants: so unprepossessing in their season of dormancy, looking like dead branches stuck randomly in the ground, but then so lush and vibrant in summer as they bloom.
