Patience

Stingray Wharf, Mandurah.

Not the best photo, I'm afraid. The scene was some distance from me and I was shaky having run/walked some distance on an increasingly hot morning, plus my iPhone skills are rather rudimentary.

The bird on the right is, of course, an Australian pelican; the one on the left is, I think, a Nankeen heron (sometimes called a night heron in these parts). I took this and walked on ... They were all still there, in more or less the same positions when I passed by 45 minutes later on my return journey. Now THAT is patience. I hope they were all rewarded by a feed from the estuary waters.

Gosh, I love this land.

Old Owl replied to Patrick Brandy:

Thanks, Patrick. This one would probably be Nycticorax caledonicus australasiae which is apparently a recognised subspecies. What intrigues me is that this heron is generally described as fully nocturnal, yet here it was at 8.30 a.m. on a hot and bright summer's day. Maybe it was just going home late after a night's partying and clubbing.

A lovely capture, John. I'd be surprised if they didn't get something sooner or later.

Oh I love this image Old Owl. I hope their patience pays off, although the pelican looks as if it could eat more than the man can catch!!! I just noticed your response to Patrick - isn't that what they do nowadays after clubbing - grab a takeaway?!!!!

Old Owl replied to Ecobird:

Grabbing a kebab on the way home is what we *used* to do, but the young seem so healthy and a little po-faced now so I doubt they need to indulge in the munchies as much as my friends and I used to do. Ah, those salad (or kebab) days when I was green in judgement ... sigh.
