"Burlington Bertie"

A lovely piece of street art spotted in Worthing, West Sussex, by a local artist who is known only as Horace. This image is reputed to be a likeness of Horace Duke (now deceased), also known as Burlington Bertie, an eccentric chap who liked to dress up and parade around the town and local area occasionally "directing" traffic.

My research indicates there are more street art images of local folk by the same artist. This is the first one I've seen (although I don't go there very often). I'll be looking out for more on my next visit.

Nice shot of this artwork...the story behind it is really neat. I love the idea of some person getting to know special locals and then immortalizing them as graffiti artwork. That's just cool. Nice find. :)

I love this artwork! Funny, so many towns have a legendary "waving man." I wonder what happened to ours, come to think of it...
