Goldfinch.

A glorious sunny day. Gave the kitchen a thorough clean in the morning. Then my groceries were delivered. Can't walk or garden at the moment because of the arthritic legs playing up but the kitchen window was wide open and I spent time watching the birds and photographing them. The open window sometimes puts them off coming to the feeder. Blue tits are the boldest and the goldfinches didn't seem to be bothered. What I think is a female house sparrow turned up. See extra. Don't usually get them. My gang are all tree sparrows. Wish I'd caught two blue tits bathing in the bird bath. They were chased out by a blackbird but kept sneaking back in when her back was turned. They really are bold.

Two delightful images Jean...............I wish we had more small birds visiting our feedrs, they're such fun to watch.

I love the Goldfinch image, especially the detail you've captured. I would agree with your ID of the bird in the extra.............I'd be surprised if there wasn't more of them around. She's obviously the advance party!

Take care!

Terrific capture on both counts Jean, I like the 70-300mm for garden shots too. Goldfinch stands out well with it's own colour and fine detail.

Jean replied to Andy Rodker:

Thanks Andy. I can get out in the car which is something. This will probably clear up but with arthritis I'm always wondering if this is the start of a journey to a new knee(God forbid !) or hip replacement. I know there is very little cartilage left in my "good" leg.

The goldfinch is beautifully colourful. I don't get many of them in my garden, probably due to the big birds that often visit. There is something really nice about your picture of the female house sparrow! It is my favourite of the two. I hope your legs are feeling better today Jean.

These are really one of our most colourful of wild birds. Our wild birds are neglecting us at the moment. Our next door neighbour has got a new cat and he's the very devil of a hunter unfortunately.

That's a lovely capture of the goldfinch. We don't have those, but sparrows have been introduced here. Yes, it's interesting how the different species of birds interact.
