Lenten rose.

I've had a few busy days and hoped I was going to continue today but I gave up. It was raining heavily and housework didn't appeal. It was also to be very windy and I had meant to go down to the coast hoping for wild water to photograph. The wind was late in coming and high tide was past so that went by the board. I picked a stem of my Lenten rose yesterday as it was almost invisible under a shrub rose so my photography was indoors. Belatedly put some clothes through the washing machine then noticed the rain had stopped. In spite of a very strong wind I took myself into the garden to continue clearing up accompanied as usual by Beaky. The lamium is now reduced to one patch in this border. Just two more borders to go. Did a fair bit of pruning. My crab apple and smoke bush had grown into each other. Now they are separate and look much better. More pruning to do though. Came in to lie on the sofa and read, then investigate plants for a shallow pond. I don't have a pond but am thinking of having one and am doing some research rather than rushing in as I've often done in the past

Your Lenten rose is beautiful Jean. I love the colour and detail. The backdrop is also a lovely colour and compliments the flower very well. My Christmas rose is not doing so well this year. I hope it perks up! I think Beaky must have been waiting for you! They know who their friends are :))

by all accounts a pond creates a big change in the variety of mini-beasts and this has a knock effect for birds and mammals. We put a tiny pond in a quiet corner of the garden and at the very start the birds love it for a drink and a bath but adding stones and old wood soon brought more insects as well

My great grandfather started digging his pond at the age of 75 (completely by himself). Seven years later he had finished it and it was a pretty good size. As small children we used to take the punt out on it and there were also trout and water voles and kingfishers eventually! (It helped that it was fed by a small stream!)
I love this lentern rose shot!

I thought this flower looked vaguely familiar but I'd never heard of it..........however a bit of research reveals that it's part of the Hellebore family.......which is why I sort of recognised it. Good to learn something new!

Anyway, it's very pretty...........and you've captured it in fine colour and ldetail as always Jean. I like the smooth blue background.

I went out and investigated the land around the Civic Centre today.........and found the Crocus patch I mentioned yesterday...........got some lovely photo (I think) which I'll post in due course.
