CL&P 4.8kV - Harwinton, CT

It was nice to see this old pole still in service. It was erected in 1937 by the Litchfield Electric Light & Power Company.

If the Mouse River Park system was ungrounded 2400, that'd fit right in!

Is that a step-down in the back powering this 4800V line?

That pole in back is similar to a step-down transformer setup, except it is "running backwards": stepping the voltage up from 4.8 kV to 13.2 kV (grounded) to power an underground branch.

This line is fed by a 500 kVA step-down transformer about two miles behind where I was with my camera when I photographed this pole.

There are some similar backwards transformers on West Central at Belvidere, boosting 2400V up to 14.4kV to serve some rural loads.

Hoping that everything is OK, CPL, you have been missed around these parts for some time now!
