Trumpan Church View

Captured at Trumpan Church, Waternish Peninsula on the Isle of Skye.

The church was destroyed in 1578 when the MacDonalds of Uist arrived by boat and landed under cover of fog. Finding their enemies the MacLeods at church they barred the doors and set fire to the church killing everyone inside.

the alarm was raised and the invading MacDonalds were killed in the 'Battle of the Spoiling Dyke', - reference to the way the bodies of the MacDonalds were thrown into the dyke , their bodies deemed unfit for a proper burial

I have added a song by Scottish band Runrig called

The Greatest Flame

www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKqUuZmLmeQ

and a second Runrig song here

Protect and Survive

www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-EBXxdni7U

Best viewed large I think. Thankyou.

HWW, Ecobird. I think it's remarkable how so much wall survived the centuries without its stones being reused elsewhere. An interesting story, too, illustrating how little has changed in the annals of human behaviour. Great shot; wonderful view. Have a super day, Carol.

Ecobird replied to Pam J:

Thank you Pam

You are right. Violence aside I love the Scottish histoy, stories and legends.

The song was fine last night but it seems to be unavailable now so have added a different version of the same song
