One of the most beautiful representatives of the tintlings is the magpie inkcap fungus (Coprinopsis picacea, syn. Coprinus picaceus). The English name is probably derived from the black and white colouring of magpies. In Germany, this fungus is relatively rare and preferably found in beech forests. It is not edible. I found the specimen shown in the photo by the wayside in a mixed beech forest. In the PiP you can see how the beauty of older specimens has completely disappeared.
