Arco a São Mamede

Rua do Arco a São Mamede boasts one of the 127 arches of the Águas Livres Aqueduct, equipment that began to supply water to the city of Lisbon in 1748, thus increasing the daily volume of water each Lisbon citizen from 6 to 15 liters had at disposal.

Beautiful photo, Judite, and wonderful information. Seven liters of water a day! We use more than that just flushing a toilet a couple of times.

A very well composed image Judite.................this section of the aquaduct and the surrounding area seems very run down and neglected but it still has a distressed sort of beauty. I like the peeling paintwork and the fading colours and the graffiti on the walls.

Beautiful impression of this old "arco". I like the different colours of the houses in the background.

The contrast between the gray of the aqueduct walls and the vividly colored facades that can be glimpsed in perspective after the arch is truly impressive.
The image is splendid and the note is interesting.
