Hi Dimas

A very nice picture, but were the chains used for slaves? They don't look very strong..

Best Wishes, a nice weekend, and stay safe!!

Dimas Sequeira replied to Peter_Private_Box:

These chains were used somehow to close the access to the port, on a lagoon connected with the sea.Since the Middle Ages, the sediment accumulation on the bottom of the lagoon disabled the access to the port and the lagoon gradually became a swampy area. Livorno benefited of this situation, becoming the port of the region.
