#46 Scoria

SH46: Something you think is a treasure

This bit of scoria shines in various metallic hues, it stems from the Krafla Fires 1975-84. I picked it up in the volcanic rift zone of Gjàstykki in North Iceland.

This is really beautiful. You've captured the detail very well and I love the iridescence.

Thanks a lot, Keith! The colours were the reason I took this home, I just couldn't resist:-)

The colours are iridescent and very beautiful. They remind me of mother of pearl shells.

Gudrun replied to Amelia:

Thanks very much, Amelia! Indeed, they do look a bit like a Paua shell! I did wonder what minerals were involved there...

Hi Gudrun,

Superb macro, and if you want to find such nice volcanic rocks, then Iceland is the place!

Having said that, the best I brought home was a couple of bottles of volcanic ash from 2010 eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull..

Nothing as pretty as this!

Best Wishes and keep safe!

Magnificent Gudrun. Makes me think of a prehistoric creature. What great colors and details. On black is even better.
