The volcanic system of Þeistareykir has a large and colourful high temperature geothermal field situated at the foot of table mountain Bæjarfjall. Geothermic drilling since 2007 has created the overflow lake in the photo. Iceland's national power company Landsvirkjun has started operating their new geothermal power plant (see note) which provides energy for the new silica plant near Husavík. grapevine.is/news/2018/04/18/new-silica-factory-opens-for-business-in-husavik-north-iceland
It is good to see the people in the main picture Gudrun, to evaluate the scale of this wonderful scene. The sheep look perfectly at home :) Thank you for the information and the excellent PiP.
Such an amazing landscape...............and in the grand scheme of things relatively unspoiled. It seems such a shame to build anything there at all. However, people need energy and a Geothermal Power Plant seems to be the most logical way of providing it. I'm not so sure about the silica plant though............that's an environmental disaster waiting to happen!
This is a really wonderful image Gudrun...........accompanied by a love shot in the PiP and a really well researched and fascinating narrative and links. Thanks for sharing.
