Hellisheiði eystri

The pass over Hellisheiði Eystri (ca. 660m) connects Héraðsflói with Vopnafjörður. It's gravel with many curves both sides of the pass but rerouting has reduced the gradient from the former 24% to only 14%. In winter the road is often closed.

Der Pass über Hellisheiði Eystri (ca. 660m) verbindet Héraðsflói mit Vopnafjörður. Es ist eine Schotterstrasse mit vielen, früher gefürchteten Kurven, die aber inzwischen von 24% auf 14% Steigung/ Gefälle entschärft woden ist. Im Winter ist die Strasse oft nicht passierbar.

Herzlichen Dank, Udo! Schotterpisten gibt's in Island viele, das ist eine, die mit ganz normalen Autos befahrbar ist. Erst wenn die Straßennamen ein F davor haben, darf man nur mit 4x4 drauf.

I'm not surprised that this road is closed in winter, Gudrun. It looks fairly basic, but at least there are snow poles. I love the way that the mountain tops arise from a sea of fog. Well composed with the rugged cliff on the left rolling down to the high plains where there is more neon moss to be seen.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! As far as Icelandic roads go, this is a good one- no potholes and river crossings;-) So it's open to all motorists. As the area is not much visited they don't bother keeping it open in winter, the next fjord can still be reached via a longer but easier road.

Moi j'aime bien et le tracé est remarquable,des routes sinueuses avec un dénivelé parfois très important,mais la est le plaisir de circuler est la et en plus on est obligé de faire très attention en même temps...!
