The Old Man of Calke

The Old Man of Calke , the oldest tree on the estate is thought to be around 1,200 years old I wonder what it has seen in those years, the path by it was specially made to avoid visitors compacting the soil around it's roots, fortunately it is well away from the carpark so not to many venture out there. Many of the trees on the estate are classed as ancient

That's a big'un Peter! It may be a little older than the old oak in a village near me. It looks very similar. www.ipernity.com/doc/rjh/49985650/in/keyword/2178227/self

A beautiful picture and good information.
Have a good new week Peter.

A wonderful tree study here reminding me of my vision of 'Treebeard' on reading Lord of the Rings. I expect to see this tree lifting it roots one by one and stomping off :) Your contre-jour shooting certainly helps too. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Best Wishes. Herb
