St Mary's Church, North Marden, West Sussex

Happy Fence Friday everyone. Thank you for all your visits & comments and/or yellow stars over the past week. Please view large on black. Thank you.

This image was taken around a month ago, before Lockdown v2.0 and in much better weather!

St Mary's is believed to have been founded by Geoffrey, son of Azo, late in the 12th century. It consists of an undivided nave and chancel. The chancel has a semi-circular (apsidal) end, and is one of only six small churches in England that has one. Made of Caen stone, this was probably shipped across the channel to Chichester harbour and then transported by packhorse to North Marden.

Monthly children's services are held in the church which is lit by candles as there is no electricity.

It looks and sounds a magical place. Old and homely. Settled in the landscape with beautiful cloud patterns overhead. Viewing large brings out all the detail of the tower and of the stonework. So lovely. Have a good weekend and stay safe.

A nice little scene here Keith. The materials are quite different, using that particular stone and a wooden tower. Great stuff. Well done.

HFF, have a great, safe weekend.

It made me smile that Azo named his son Geoffrey :) It's a beautiful little church and such an English scene. The detail when enlarged is superb Keith. Thank you for the information as well.

HFF and wish you a good weekend. Take care and stay safe.
