Worksop Nottinghamshire 28th August 2021
Seen from the footbridge Northern Class 150 diesel multiple unit 150228 approaches Worksop station over Carlton Road level crossing with 2P80 the 16.30 Lincoln Central to Sheffield service.
By the crossing is Worksop East signal box built for the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway in 1880-1885. A new box assumed control of the entire Worksop area, replacing Shireoaks Station, Shireoaks Junction and Worksop West. Worksop East was retained as a gate box.
Worksop station was opened in July 1849 by the Sheffield and Lincolnshire Junction Railway, part of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway. Today as well as Lincoln trains it is also the northern terminus of the Robin Hood Line from Nottingham and Mansfield (the section from the latter town was re-opened to passengers on 25 May 1998).
