Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire 22nd May 2016

Two freight trains pass on the southern approach to Loughborough station. We are on British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214 with a Down freight heading for the Loop. Meanwhile in the Up Through Loop Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45305 waits with a minerals train.

Both trains fit the Railways at Work theme very authentically & give a fair impression of the later BR era on the GC main line.

Another wonderful image and very hard to put a date on it. The industrial atmosphere is really enhanced by the rake of ordinary, everyday mineral wagons. Is the Black 5 maybe just a bit too clean? The exhaust rising past the trees makes them look a bit like chimneys, adding to the atmosphere even more.

Thanks very much. The GCR is all about "Recreating the Experience". True the 5 is a bit shiny and the 16 tonners a bit clean but not a bad recreation.
