Las Lloronas

From the folkloric mythology of Latin America, the legend of the "Llorona" or "Weeping Woman" prevails for its presence. It is known from Chile to Mexico with variations, but keeping its essence based on a taboo: a mother that kills her child.

Thank you very much, Marko. They were painted long time ago, I haven't painted since, or at least not in that scale. At that time I was very interested in tales, myths and legends. This year I am going to take a year long art workshop with the theme fairy-tales. (I prefer the german term : Märchen, since the "fairy" is misleading, most of them don't have them). That is why I fished them out of my old files. :) Let´s see what happens.

Pués, es que la leyenda de la Llorona es una de un espanto de mil caras y las caras —me parece a mí— se ajustan al sentimiento de culpa de cada uno de los que le temen. La Llorona del cuchillo es la Bella que se le aparece a los infieles y borrachines. Dicen escuchar su llanto y de lejos ven a una bella mujer que cuando se les acerca, cambia su cara a la de una bruja o calavera... mejor dicho asume la forma de lo que más temen. Tengo una recopilación de relatos, que a lo mejor debiera subir al sector de artículos. Es que estoy en medio de un trasteo, por lo que apenas me paso unos momentos por aquí y apenas ahora tuve la calma para contestar.
