Identification received

I found this in our local nature reserve. (See also PiP). The kind description of it would be as a "garden escapee", but I really didn't have an ID for the plant itself and had asked for assistance. With the ID provided below by Amelia Heath I am now confident that this is a Crocosmia species, also known as Montbretia.

SMALL-IMGP1287-1

As an aside, does anyone else find that the red tones of their images seem to be boosted when posted here?

It looks like Crocosmia to me. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocosmia. It probably is a garden escapee. It grows from a corm and is very common in gardens - often needing to be dug up as it becomes a bit of a nuisance. I haven't noticed any enhancement of colour. Could it be that you have sunshine where you are, George? ;-)))

That's marvellous information and I'd say you're spot-on, Amelia. With your start, I've now found this link (which picks up the common name): weeds.dpi.nsw.gov.au/Weeds/Montbretia . Many thanks indeed, with ipernity here, who needs Google?

A beautiful sunny picture.

Thank you, Rosa, I'm sure you're both right. In my offline time I'm in a volunteer group that controls the weeds in our local nature reserve, and this was a totally new arrival from somewhere!
