Waterspout at Batemans Bay

This waterspout developed in unstable weather ahead of an approaching cold front. It was maybe 2km offshore and caused understandable excitement.

Explored.

My apologies to Maria and *Reinhard*, I could not get this photo (originally copied across from F/r) to copy to groups, no matter what I did or how long I waited for the system to catch up. I finally had to create a new posting and delete the former one - in the process, your kind comments were lost.

It really was, it lasted a little over ten minutes and did eventually strike land - fortunately on an uninhabited area of the coast. Thank you for your fave.

Many thanks for all your comments and faves, please excuse me for not replying to you individually. It did indeed draw quite a bit of attention. [Edit and update] I have some other waterspout shots, of this and a previous one, and now have grouped them with some words in an article. How good is it having a blog in the photosite! :)

blimey O'reilly, that's awesome, well done for getting the shot, I'd have been running in the opposite direction!

Thank you, I suspect the reactions (including mine) may have been different if we had thought it was heading our way. :)

Gill, MR. JiP, it did indeed seem unreal and was apparently the largest in Australia for some years - so as you might imagine I was fumbling with the camera with excitement. :)
