what a great piece of social history

I see such rent books for the first time and had never heard of them, Marj! A very interesting historical contribution to the topic and a very appealing presentation of you, similar to the view into a glass showcase in the museum. Very nicely exhibited and photographed.
If I understand correctly, your mother paid small amounts several times a month, which looks like installments. Was that so common at the time?

Thank you Stevia....... it was the norm to pay weekly in those days & they called for the Rent money at the property they were renting. Not many people used banks much in those days ...

I've never heard of them either. I guess when you pay cash, you need a receipt of some sort.
