ODE TO AGING OR A TRULY EXISTENTIAL POEM

I did many things in my life
and no one noticed anything
not even my prodigal son

it could have been different
marketing and scandal bring a person into quick oblivion
but I will simply be forgotten because no one remembers me
it doesn't matter if no one remembers me
even if I've done a lot of things in life
it's often said what is important
is a satisfied conscience
but that's not even my concern
at more than eighty years old I've already forgotten the past
the present is this almost null text
and the future is predictably short and uncertain
although some faces and upside-down bodies I still love
inhabit my thought

I did many things in my life
and no one noticed anything
not even my prodigal son
nor me

ODE AO ENVELHECIMENTO OU POEMA VERDADEIRAMENTE EXISTENCIAL

fiz muitas coisas na vida
e ninguém deu por nada
nem o meu filho pródigo

poderia ter sido diferente
o marketing e o escãndalo levam a pessoa a um rápido esquecimento
mas eu serei simplesmente esquecido porque ninguém se lembará de mim
não importa que ninguém se recorde
mesmo tendo feito muitas coisas na vida
é comum dizer-se que o importante
é a consciência tranquila
mas nem isso me preocupa
com mais de oitanta anos já me esqueci do passado
o presente é este texro quase nulo
e o futuro previsívelmente curto e incerto
embora alguns rostos e corpos de pernas para o ar que ainda amo
povoem o meu pensamento

fiz muitas coisas na vidas
e ninguém deu por nada
nem o meu filho pródigo
nem eu

Excellent collage to go with your poem. It's an ode we'll all have to face. Stay positive and think of the good things. Blemishes and imperfection -- regrets aren't worth thinking about since time is too short already.

Armando Taborda replied to William Sutherland:

...I've to confess to you if I wasn't positive I couldn't write a poem about the uselessness of life...one thing is the evidence of life... another thing is the mystery and the uncertainties it creates inside our mind...

thanks much for your well-intentioned comment, William
