Large Lobster Lattice

A fishery on the decline --- lobsters are migrating away from the Gulf of Maine due to global warming/climate change (the Gulf of Maine is warming faster than all nearby waters). The loss of import sales to China due to Trumpian tariff "wars" has a significant economic impact on Maine lobster industry's ability to operate profitably.

Canada profits from these changes. Ocean water is colder there; rules allow for harvest of smaller lobster; China is instead buying Canadian lobsters, and even if U.S. tariffs are ever lifted, there is no reason to revert back to U.S. sources.

But still plenty of reason to vote in November, I'd say. I for one am breathing down the neck of my American husband to get his darn ballot from the consulate this time!

Beautiful, if melancholy, image, L.
A very belated HFF!

Covid closures will take away most US demand that's left for Maine lobster. Very sad, many mom & pop wholesale industries are suffering terribly, it's not just retail. Still, we can't just open things up all the way...even though there are many governors who throw caution to the winds.

Love that sign, though.
