A photograph from the new year 2016.. showing.. 'Levada dos Piornais'.. Madeira' .. one of many man made water channels found all around the island. As seen here this Levada is carved into the sheer rock face of a cliff.. then shortly to duck into a tunnel. Most 'Levadas' are open to walk freely.. This particular route is not usually included in guided tours.. and care does need to be taken at many points along the way..
Note.. the 'level' track seen on the other side of the valley.- is the continuation of the 'Levada' seen here.. as it returns from the valley.
