The gritstone rocks of... 'Back tor'

Derwent Edge has several examples of unusually shaped 'gritstone tors' which have been formed by the actions of wind, rain and frost over many centuries. These tors have been named over the years and are now officially titled on Ordnance Survey maps. Here we see the varied rock formations of 'Back tor' with a walker and his faithful dog.

A new area for me Colin... a truly gasp inducing stagger - up from Derwent... but will visit again.. perhaps from a different approach...

Looking on the map, it is astonishing how many almost untouched land is between the agglomerations in west and east.

Pleased about that thanks.. Andy.. we'll be back to tackle more of this stretch before long... from a different direction though ... the uphill stagger from Derwent was a killer.. for me anyway !

David G Johnson replied to Leon_Vienna:

That's correct.. Leon'... there are some really remote pathways out there... accidents are a scary thing because help will be a long way off... 'Kinder scout' for instance is serious walking and preparation is advised....however, the region is very enjoyable.
Keep well... best wishes.. from David J'.. UK.
