The Hoa Lo Prison
Hoa Lo, fiery furnace or hellhole, built by the French to imprison Vietnamese freedom fighters and political prisoners, they called the prison Maison Centrale
From the Second Indochina War the name "Hanoi Hilton" was given to the prison by the American soldiers. Between 1964 and 1973 there were several captured American pilots among the inmates of the prison, including the late former senator John McCain.
