Avenue of Beeches

This avenue of beeches is along the B3082 which is the main route between Wimborne and Blandford. There were originally 365 trees along one side and 366 along the other side. The National Trust care for them as part of the Kingston Lacy Estate and have so far replaced some seventy of them with hornbeams, which are just as attractive but are better able to withstand the disadvantages of being alongside a busy road. Originally planted by William John Bankes for his mother, Frances.

Our thoughts are with Andy Rodker at this time and wish him a speedy recovery. I seem to remember that this is a road he knows well.

Lovely perspective, Rosa looking along the road. I love the dip. The roadway and the white lines act as great lead-in lines to draw the eye into the scene. The shapes of the beech trees are magnificent. The variety of colours in the foliage is very spectacular. All the best, Joe

This was always part of m favourite route to Bournemouth from Shaftesbury and there was a very good shot of it on Panoramio that had an incredible number of visits.
I knew that there had to be something wrong with Andy as usually he never misses a day, but I saw that he was making the odd reply. We wish you well Andy

Yes mine too Nick. We used to go to the motorbike scrambles with my father at Badbury Rings and always loved this road. I hope we soon see Andy back with his photos Nick.
