St John's Church ~ Glastonbury

Normally there are many buskers in front of this church and often traffic along the road, so I was very pleased to get this uncluttered shot, with traffic barred and buskers elsewhere! Also showing the Celtic Cross memorial stone.

DSC 8372

The Victorian drinking fountain on Lambrook Street in the town. On a stone to the left is written 'Commit no nuisance' and above the arch it says 'To the Tor', above a pointing hand/finger.

Such beautiful church...............I like the colour of the stonework and it looks very imposing in the sunshine. I like the shape of the Celtic Cross, and the fine detail you've captured. The flowers and the wreath are lovely and colourful.

I like the old drinking fountain as well................and also the "commit no nuisance" sentiment. I wonder if it's still in use?

Two super images Rosa.........nicely done. Have a good week.

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to Keith Burton:

Thank you Keith. I was lucky with the weather. The church is right in the middle of the High Street. There are several drinking fountains around the town and they all have spring water that is supposed to have healing properties...well it is Glastonbury ;-)

A very impressive church, it looks well maintained, how tall is the cross ? compared with the fence it looks quite large, the fountain would be called a hydration point nowadays !! is there a horse trough close by

A lovely view of the church and of the Celtic cross. I like the drinking fountain and the advice to "commit no nuisance." That had a fairly specific meaning for the Victorians but I can't help feeling that all of us manage to be a nuisance from time to time. Still we can only do our best to behave well.
