Swans on the Canal

Swans will often stretch one of their legs whilst swimming and instead of putting it in the water, they will tuck it up onto their back. The large surface area of the webbed foot makes it easier for heat to be transferred from the body to the air, cooling the swan.

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to Jaap van 't Veen:

Thank you Jaap. They were not quite that white, but I wanted them to stand out more against the greyish water :-))

Nicely captured Rosa...........I like the way they've adopted the same pose for you.

Your exposure is excellent and the swans stand out nicely on the dark background.

I hope you have a good week. Overcast and drizzly here today, but supposed to be better from tomorrow onwards.

Rosalyn Hilborne replied to Keith Burton:

I was hoping to get that 'heart' pose, but no! Thank you for your kind comments.

Much the same here. It's Weymouth with the granddaughter tomorrow, whatever the weather!
I hope you are right :-)

The poses of the swans complement each other perfectly, Rosa. So that's why swans tuck one leg up onto their backs. Thanks for the information. Cheers, Joe
