These autumn colours are just amazing, dear Nick. I seem to remember this photo from Pan. I believe that the gardens were first designed by Capability Brown. A genius when it comes to choice of trees and where to have the lake.

Stourhead was my introduction to appreciating the skills of Caapability Brown. I believe however that he did a better job of planing the planting trees of contrasting colours at Sheffield Park. The main lake at Stourhead remains by favourite in terms of landscaping. xx
