What is wild lilac?

Doug Shepherd replied to Boarischa Krautmo:

Hi Boarischa - I use the word 'wild' lilac to refer to the lilac trees growing uncultivated in Wykeham Forest which consists of natural woodland and forestry plantations. Quite how the lilac comes to be growing in this area I have no idea.
