This sculpture is just newly installed, Rosa. I wonder how long it will last till the vandals get to it. Thanks for your very kind comment. Cheers, Joe
I saw this on your Flickr account, Joe, but obviously I cannot comment there. I love the way the
Sculpture frames The Rock. What does the symbol of the elephant mean? I looks rather nice against the white stone.
Thanks for your very kind comment, Amelia. The elephant with the castle on its back is the coat-of-arms of Dumbarton, because Dumbarton Rock is said the resemble exactly that... an elephant with a castle on its back. The sculpture being placed at this location allows the viewer to compare the coat-of-arms on the plaque with the Rock resembling an elephant with a castle on its back.
There was a pub in Dumbarton High Street called the Elephant and Castle, which the locals affectionally referred to as Nellie's.It was demolished in 2017, after standing empty for a few years.

The elephant and castle is also the badge of the local football club.
