Baptisé au XiXème siècle 'Pont de Verdun', ce pont est le plus ancien de la ville d'Angers.

La Maine prend naissance au confluent des rivières Mayenne et Sarthe, au nord de la ville d'Angers, Longue de seulement 11,5 km, elle se jette dans la Loire à Bouchemaine, au sud d'Angers.

IThe Maine riveris formed by the confluence of the Mayenne and Sarthe rivers, north of Angers. It flows through this city and joins the Loire south-west of Angers.

For centuries, Angers was an important stronghold in northwestern France. It was the cradle of the Plantagenet dynasty and became one of the intellectual centers of Europe during the reign of René of Anjou.

The Château d'Angers, built on a schist promontory, dominates the river Maine and the old town. The castle itself was built between 1230 and 1240. The massive walls are about one kilometer long and punctuated by17 towers.
