Edvard Munch (born December 12, 1863 in Løten, died January 23, 1944 in Aker) was a Norwegian painter, graphic designer, early representative of expressionism. He is a internationally renowned Norwegian visual artist.
His best-known composition, The Scream (1893), is part of a series The Frieze of Life, in which Munch explored the themes of love, fear, death, melancholia and anxiety.

The muddiness and the drips are so odd, but this was probably an underpainting or a study, not a finished work. He did a lot of studies before settling on a finished work.
