Cooper's Hawk

There's a story to go with this photo. We've recently put up bird feeders at our new home and we've had a flock of California Quail searching for food under the feeders. A few days ago they were scurrying back to cover and this hawk dropped out of the trees nearby and took one of them. In the photo some of the feathers of the quail are behind the hawk and he is sitting on the quail waiting for it to stop moving. When it did stop moving he flew away with it. The photo was taken from a window and so is not the best angle but with birds one takes what one can get.

That is a beautiful photograph Ron and think you are so lucky. I would love to see a raptor over here but they are few and far between.

Fine opportunistic capture indeed! Can't help feeling sorry for the quail, though!
