Grief

In memory of the victims of mass murder in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15th. I send my condolences and my hope that the families of the deceased find peace in the weeks, months, years to come. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has done what has been repeatedly blocked in the US: proposed new, stricter gun control legislation. She has the support of the public and most of her government. I have friends in NZ and they are devastated.

I remember Kaikoura earthquake in 2016. I had a online friend from New Zealand at that time, reporting how it was.

Somehow disturbing to compare these two. A human being manages to kill more than an earthquake! =(

One of those places where this kind of horror is least expected and therefore it seems more shocking than in the Middle East, for example, although it should be equally horrific wherever it occurs.

This particular type is usually in the USA.

Yes, the until now "innocent" island of New Zealand has now been hit by terror! Hopefully, the desire for more control over weapons will finally be implemented! Not only in NZL, also in other countries. This is a discussion we have in Switzerland too, and, incomprehensibly, there are still a few hardliner who object to it. It's unbelievable!

I cannot fathom how that kind of mind works..."my guns are more important than human life."

A very poignant photo Diane...........and a fitting memorial to those who sadly their lives in this cowardly and gratuitous attack!

Watching the news, I have been very impressed by how the NZ Prime Minister has responded and her determination to impose more stringent gun control laws.

Yes, she is a real force for common sense change. I envy Kiwis their good government.

Actually, I was shocked that such weapons could be bought there. I thought it was only the U.S. among 'civilized' countries that allowed for such insanity.

I thought the same, Don. Well, they are sensible people and are no longer allowing them.
