Goodness, I do remember that time;-) Thank god hair these days is easier to manage.

Diane Putnam replied to Gudrun:

Ohhh, I couldn't stand to do all of that now, I used to even sleep in my rollers so my hair would look good for school. Ugh! Now, it just does what it wants...

My Mum had trousers (ok, pants) exactly like your Mum's!

Diane Putnam replied to Andy Rodker:

Argh, they're awful, but they were all the rage! I guess old golfers and the young avant garde wear them now.

A lovely picture Diane. I have some photos of my mum's American penfriend who she started writing to in the 1940's until the lovely lady died in the late 1990's. I used to love looking at them when I was a child because she looked so glamorous. I will have to look them out as I have my late mother's photos and treasure them so much.

Diane Putnam replied to Rosalyn Hilborne:

I would love to see them uploaded here, Rosa! (I had a Japanese pen pal in the mid 1950s to early 1960s.)

Hahaha - I'll bet! At the time, I would tell her it was too poofy, but she ignored me. I tried...

Peggy C replied to Diane Putnam:

My Mom used to take her long hair and put it in a French braid -- her hair was quite thick and I could never figure out how she managed to get it looking so neat !
Inherited her 'thick hair gene' ... have enough for 3 people.. at least !
