TransPennine through Diggle

This is one of their latest Class 802 Series trains. Built in Italy by Hitachi and brought into service here in Britain in 2018. These travel from Manchester to Huddersfield, Leeds and York and are known as Diesel-electric bi-mode multiple (five-car) unit trains. They run by electric where possible but as seen here can run by their own diesel power too. This taken near the long 5456 yard Stanedge tunnel portal at Diggle to Marsden in Yorkshire.

Enjoy large.

Superb point view, Herb

Herb Riddle replied to J.Garcia:

Yes, it came along at quite a speed here but as there was a long tunnel starting only a few metres away, it was much slower than it might have been. These trains, though nice, quite and fast are nowhere as good or as fast as the high-speed trains of France TGV's etc. Most of our old railway line infrastructure cannot take those high speeds as there ere too many bends and low bridges. We are trying to build new high speed lines from London to the North west but against much opposition.

Keep safe.

Nick (above) had exactly the same thoughts as me! The train looks like a large caterpillar!

You've captured it in fine detail Herb..........but it does look out of place in this environment!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Yep, I see that too, having eaten its way through the greenery. Thanks for the lookin Keith.

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Glad you enjoyed this one Toz. Lucky you, managing to go to places when the sun is forecasted. Look forward to your pictures. I was in Kendal earlier this week but dull weather and family commitments there hampered any ambitious photo grabbing.

Have a great time. Herb

Good to see Transpenine have some new trains at last, it seems likely these will run on the London to Sheffield route via Leicester and Derby instead of completing the electrification although a lot of work has been done

Herb Riddle replied to Peter Castell:

Good to see you Peter. yes, TP has had some very old stock running on here for donkeys years. I think there are a lot of these about presently used by a few companies. Reckon you are right too about using these were electrification never happens.

I find the livery and shape of the cab quite sinister looking - a highly poisonous snake...

Superb capture tho' Herb, well done!

Herb Riddle replied to MaggsMep:

Built for speed I think, unlike a snake Maggs :) Got to admit that I like this shape. Thanks for dropping by.
