The old boat winch

Seen overlooking the beach at Runswick Bay. Some years back there used to be a lot more fishing boats around here, now there are mainly memories and a few pleasure boats but this old winch survives to pull the odd boat up out of the water as seen.

I really like these machines that were so important to mitigate the enormous manual effort
In b / w the composition is dazzling and adjusted to that glorious past and to remember it
Strong and superb composition, Herb

Herb Riddle replied to J.Garcia:

Another story of our past here Judite. Some photos tell the story better in monochrome and this is perhaps one of them. Glad you like it.

What a super find Herb..................and a lovely "detail" image from you. I also like the background and the upturned boats which put this old winch into context. The light is gorgeous too.

Good to hear it's still in occasional use too........still useful after all these years (unllke me). :-)))

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Hi Keith. Funny enough I photographed another very similar to this whilst on the East coast of Scotland only last year (it seems like years ago now). There must be a fair number of them still about. Great that you liked my take of it and you thought that the mono suited.

Stay healthy my friend. Herb
