Lily

A snap of our home grown (Stargazer) lilies. These are just in from of our conservatory doors and so when we sit in there we can see them in their glory. In the evening the sweet aroma of these plants can be the most wonderful or unpleasant experience depending on whether you are allergic to its pollen. (as I am sometimes)

'Lily, the common name applied to herbaceous flowering plants belonging to the genus Lilium of the family Liliaceae. The genus contains between 80 and 100 species, native to the temperate areas of the Northern Hemisphere. Lilies are prized as ornamental plants, and they have been extensively hybridized.' www.britannica.com

Lovely shot, Herb.
And here's a tip (something my mother taught me); If the lily heads are anywhere near where people might brush by, cut the stamens out as the pollenn stains clothese indelibly! Might also be a cure for your occasional allergy!!

Herb Riddle replied to Andy Rodker:

Thanks Andy and apologies for late come-back here. Glad you liked this. You remind me now of the stamens that I used to cut off for years too. Forgot all about that this year. A few hours ago I moved the pot to its default spot some distance from our doors and windows as it is now all almost finished. I have had a few shirts ruined with these very same flowers in years past. (They must be 20 years old now.)

They are beautiful and very well photographed Herb. I hope they didn't make you sneeze too much. My daughter often buys them for her cottage and I must say, I haven't noticed their scent. Maybe because she usually has a candle or two burning!! Cheers, Rosa.

Herb Riddle replied to Rosalyn Hilborne:

Glad you liked them Rosa. When I start to sneeze with this pollen, It makes my eyes water and can even make my nose bleed - I now run out to the opposite side of the house in the fresh air to find the cure. Be happy that you are not allergic to them too. I do not call myself as having an allergic reaction to most pollen's.

Very nice herb and glad you enjoy them, Last year I ordered flowers for my partners birthday she loved them but the arrangement contained some of these lilies and unfortunately they had to be put outside as the aroma was to overpowering.

Herb Riddle replied to HappySnapper:

Thanks Maurice -they are most beautiful to admire but the aroma, as you say can be too much for many.

totally love the water drops, love the name fitting for some one like you. WE had some as well that we could bring inside but not for long the scent is just way too strong.

Herb Riddle replied to Steve Paxton:

Hi Steve -yes the water drops are nice on here and they are quite natural too. Yes a name, even more fitting for you though. Got to be careful with these though to string for many with that scent.
