Music of Ireland

Ireland is a musical country. It is everywhere and lots of it is folk music. Here on a Ring of Kerry scenic lay-by is this local chap playing a great reel to the few people who was interested.

Enjoy large.

As it was Jaap, a coach full of German tourist had just pulled in and so he was getting into the spirit here. Thanks for another visit.

Oh isn't this awesome! I would have loved to hear him play. What a cool experience that must have been, and in such a pretty place too.

Thanks for your comment on my HFF picture, I enjoyed reading about your aversion to commercials of all kinds too...yes, you gotta love BBC!! I certainly do.

Happy holidays to you and your family!

Herb Riddle replied to Janet Brien:

Hi Janet, his playing was in reality, a bit questionable as he tapped the time on the tin tray at his feet. (I play one of these myself but mine is a three row). We had a nice conversation as he waited for the bus load of punters to unload. He admitted that he made very little money but for me, well worth a small donation. This was a wonderful spot that I have yet to find in this Ipernity map.Mapped now. My pleasure to share some small thoughts on a shared subject with you in your pages.

Wishing you and yours A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year, Herb

A great image and a wonderful backdrop, it looks like he intended to get some money out of you one way or another !! is that St. Brigid ?

Herb Riddle replied to Peter Castell:

He was trying his best Peter as said in my comment to Janet (above). I am afraid that the statue does not look like St Brigit but the stature of 'Our Lady' which adorns Ireland everywhere. Not that next to the squeeze box player is a selection of St Brigit's crosses for sale (in green) which are "placed in our homes to keep all inside safe.”

Herb Riddle replied to tiabunna:

Thanks George. Yes The Irish Rovers fit nicely but there music contains fiddle etc so I have included an appropriate link here. (in the description).

Herb Riddle replied to TOZ:

Hi Toz, very happy that you like this one too and my above comments to Tiabunna and Janet apply to you too. I too love folk music and used to go regularly to sessions. My wife Eileen was really into it as she sometime sang. As you may already know -I play the accordeon myself -mostly a 64 Bass piano but I also have a 'Hohner Trichord' 3 row like this (almost). Unfortunately, I am not very good though. I might have know from the that, that you were into folk or even more likely into Country music. Many thanks for the gold star.

Have a Great Christmas my friend and happy New Years shooting for you, Herb
