Porth Meudwy

The coves and bays of the Llŷn Peninsula can be as good as Cornwall, Devon or Pembroke. Here we are at Porth Meudwy, just south west of the tiny but popular seaside village of Aberdaron enjoying the splashing waves at low tide. Normally I would be under about 6ft of water here. This little cove even has some resident fishing boats and was once the embarkation point for pilgrims making the journey to Bardsey Island. It is a place to try a bit of surfing too.

Herb Riddle replied to Steve Paxton:

Thanks a lot Steve. Yes, I know New Zealand has many similar coastlines to ours in Britain. Actually there was a smell of fresh fish here, no doubt recently unloaded from one of the fishing craft seen whilst we were here. Some of these rocks were very black indicating possible volcanic activity of long ago.

Herb Riddle replied to David G Johnson:

Yes a little bit of scrambling to get to these slippy rocks but worth it in the end David.
Thanks for another visit here.

Herb Riddle replied to Jaap van 't Veen:

Thanks Jaap - there were many of these little coves but not all had such rocks.

A lovely seascape, Herb. Those rocks certainly are remarkably polished.

Herb Riddle replied to tiabunna:

All in the power of the sea George. Not quite as dramatic as some of your latest seascapes though.

I love this one Herb............especially the water movement through the smooth rocks and the way the sunlight is reflecting off them. Just gorgeous!

I recommend viewing this one large, on black for full effect..!!

Herb Riddle replied to Keith Burton:

Cheers Keith, as you say, best viewed full size with black background. A great little cove here and these rocks make it for me too.
