Vela Area - The Gums

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vela_(constellation)

This started as a good idea but was really the wrong time started high and finished by 3am. I have never taken the three gums middle to top of shot the small one Gum 15,

Gum15

to the Right Gum 14 and Gum 17 to the left. At the bottom of shot the face of what looks like a Racoon The Vela Supernova Remnant.

Vela Super Nova Remnant

RCW 35 the larger Red area and RCW 36 the one on the edge of the left side.

What looks like a single shot is infact a 10 shot panorama 2 x4 Plus I added an extra two shot to get in RCW35 &36.

just out of shot left and below RCW38

RCW 38 - do look at this full screen.

Further Left Pencil Nebula

Steve Paxton replied to Nick Weall:

There is a lot in this area and more I have not looked at wrong time of year thats for sure and size of scope. Not bad for an old Nikon lens and only manual focus . Many thanks.

Marvellous astro images, Steve. One small suggestion, could you possibly add to your notes a reference to the broad sky position, ie right ascension and declination? That would help those of us not familiar with the names of the various objects.

Steve Paxton replied to tiabunna:

George I did in the title Vela Area I can certainly use

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vela_(constellation)

But I think this photo (10 of them) a bit hard to write out R A and Dec but I can understand what you are getting at. The old lens is proving its worth in gold for what I bought it for glad you like the shots.

tiabunna replied to Steve Paxton:

Sorry Steve, i should have visited your wikipedia link before posting. I wasn't looking for a totally specific position, just something broadly on the lines of "broadly 10 h - 50". Great images though!
