Spring Storm - 9 am

We were warned that we have to prepare for a real spring storm. 100 km/h wind and total downpour. I had just finished cleaning kindy and went to take these two photos of the sky.

Less than 30 min after this shot the heavens opened we had a "white out" no vision for less than 2m for a very long time. I did not stay at school left came home roads covered with trees and lots of branches. this was our first spring storm It lived up to what was predicted. The day turned very dark enough that the car lights automatically turned on.

From the radar we got off lightly the southern tip of western Australia coped the major brunt of this storm front. All I had was my phone to capture the scene. The school will be a total mess tomorrow from fallen branches and leaves. the effect the storm had on the trees.

Steve Paxton replied to tiabunna:

Not a great day for working outside so I finished up all I could inside then came home what a drive. Branches big some small all over the roads, going to be a mess at school today.

Although storms are never good for their surroundings they do in fact produce a good environment for dramatic natural lighting. These shots here reflect more of my typical lighting than yours. Nice cropping in the top photo.

Cheers. Herb

Steve Paxton replied to Herb Riddle:

Herb that is so true not a usual skies at all the lighting is so different to what we are use to. It was kind of a shame I only had the phone as it would have made for a very interesting photo on a real camera. Hope not to have too many with all the treesing the school a lot of leaves and downed branches. you have a great weekend.

Dramatic sky with a peculiar lighting, before the downpour and the wild wind blows! HFF if the aftermath allows it, Steve!

Oops, that looks threatening! I hope this storm isn't the beginning of a dramatic summer for you, I read somewhere that a severe fire season is expected... hFF and a good weekend!

At the mercy of the elements. We do have amazing weather events in Australia. Then overseas, fire consuming Lahaina, floods and earthquakes elsewhere...
