Jewel box NGC4755

This is First photo with the new scope as it is two mirrors that have to line up I did not do it as this was first look trying to get focus position and exposure. the ED80 only had one 5kg weight to get balance this scope requited 2x 5kg and 2x 1.25 kg weight to get balance. the guide scope was set to on side of the scope but I could balance out the side with no guide scope only to find the other side was MILES out of balance.

So plan B was to mount the guide scope on the top of the telescope so it all in line and balanced. I have to recollimate( aligne mirrors) as putting the scope on the mount would chance the mirrors positions which has yet to be done.
New telescope

the 4 spikes you see on the main stars comes from the 4 spider webs that hold the secondary mirror in the right place. you have to adjust the main primary mirror and then the secondary so every thing is in line.

Yes you have seen these stars formation before.

Jewel Box Cluster NGC4755

last night was the culmination of a very busy two weeks took about 1 hour to get focus and I had to remove 2 rings in the train.

the photo above has no flats only darks as it was not really suppose to happen but as it went so well I just let it work all night long.

At 6'3" I feel all of 1" when all of this comes alive on my computer and so far ahead of the books I looked through of my fathers. I am sure in 30 years I will be so old school people will think its out of date. Many thanks I am finally enjoying the fruits of the last 3 years hard work.

This went together slow and a lot of thoughts so it went together well worked first night as all the work paid off. focusing the mirrors is so hard and at this stage a little beyond me. given 6 months I am sure it will all be second nature.... many thanks.

Getting there with this early test Steve! All looks perfect to me, even with the slight faults you mention! You know you are miles ahead of the normal sky photographer here but I expect you to get even better as time goes on -as you say.

Good luck. ~ Herb

Steve Paxton replied to Herb Riddle:

One thing I can tell you try to adjust mirror is not easy but its as much a learning curve as everything else but it is heartening to get this as a first up. I know that these photos just appear here but the is so much more behind this than normal photography. I chose a path as they say for better or worse. I am enjoying the results and getting use to the things that need to be done I dont see myself going much past here in gear. many thanks there will be more to follow.
