Hair ice is formed when the air temperature is just below freezing and the humidity. Ice is extruded from the pores of a plant and freezes in thin filaments. On this morning, the air temperature was -4℃ and the humidity was 96%. I see this several times per winter within a few meters of the edge of the pond.
