Ein toter Baumstamm wird zersetzt - A dead tree trunk being decomposed

I found this dead tree trunk, densely colonised with a fungus unknown to me, in a mixed oak forest. The mushroom caps had a diameter of about 15 cm, were light caramel-coloured, and broke easily. About the biology: The fungal hyphae decompose the tree trunk and feed on the decomposition products. In the end, the tree trunk becomes humus. New tree seeds (or other plant seeds) can then germinate again in this valuable substrate. An "eternal" cycle and perfect recycling.
